Hammersley: By Himself features renowned abstract painter Frederick Hammersley who initially received recognition for his work in 1959 in the landmark exhibition, Four Abstract Classicists. Shown in Los Angeles and San Francisco, the exhibition traveled to London where it was retitled "West Coast Hard-Edge" and the term "hard-edge" entered the vocabulary of art. Cleanly defined and orderly, "hard-edge" offered a clear alternative to then dominate Abstract Expressionist style. This documentary features various archival and video files of Hammersley discussing his art and life.
