Miscellaneous notes sent from Joel M. Halpern to Carl and Nettie Halpern during the time spent in Laos with the United States Operations Mission. In these notes, Joel M. Halpern describes a trip to the caves of Pak Ou on a crowded riverboat. He also describes the third day of "Pimai" or Lao New Year, when the Phra Bang (the image of Buddha) is taken from the Royal Palace in procession and placed in a Wat to be ritually bathed by the crown prince and other civil servants.
