The item verso provides dimension information for the building: length, 550 feet, width, 350 feet, seating capacity, 50,000 and area of building, 4 1/2 acres. The World Peace Jubilee and International Music Festival was held in Boston in 1872 to commemorate the end of the Franco-Prussian War. The Boston Coliseum, which housed the event, was designed by William Preston and intended to be a temporary structure. The event was organized by composer and bandmaster Patrick Gilmore.
