After 1932, through Eberhard Koebel's (tusk) influence many youth were stimulated by his monthly magazine "Die Kiefer", which dealt intensively with Asian philosophy and cultural practice. However, after 1933, these ideas became more underground with the rise of National Socialism in Germany. In his letters, Koebel announced for "Die Kiefer" that "a whole period of Zen research and observation of Japan will follow".
