The episode begins with Erica showing a men’s satin stitch embroidered waistcoat from the 18th century. She bemoans the fact that, while men in the 1700s were “peacocks,” modern men are very conservative dressers. She suggests embroidering a man’s necktie to pep up his wardrobe and make formal occasions look less funereal. She also has a tip for men who do not wish to have more color and flair in their wardrobe—only embroider the tie at the bottom; that way, the closed suit jacket will cover up the embroidery. Erica suggests the woodland animals—skunks, quail, raccoons, chipmunks, and the like—make excellent motifs for men’s neckties. She also suggests using the symbols for the signs of the Zodiac as motifs and shows a purple brocade necktie that she embroidered with a red Aries the Ram symbol.
