This lithograph represents a statue from China that resembles Buddha but is actually alluding to Louis-Philippe. The statue is a caricature of him.There is a play on words in "magot", which can be translated as a baboon, a grotesque figure from China, an ill-fated person, or a hidden treasure. At that time, the collecting of Chinese porcelain and Buddha figures was starting to be fashionable in France and in England.
