Two letters to Edward Hitchcock. Benjamin Silliman writes to Hitchcock about Charles Lyell's recent visit, and says Lyell will likely visit Hitchcock soon. Silliman mentions some fossilized tracks that Dr. James Deane sent him. Silliman Jr. discusses the October 1841 issues of the Journal of American Science, and also writes about some theories on fossils resulting from ice.
