A letter to Edward Hitchcock in which Benjamin Silliman describes his efforts in finishing his chemistry textbook, apologizes for mentioning Hitchcock's observations on a fossilized flower in The American Journal of Science and the criticisms towards them that had since been published, and offers his thoughts on publishing a catalogue of plants and animals in the Journal for Massachusetts Governor Levi Lincoln. Silliman also suggests that Hitchcock visit Canton, Connecticut before finishing his article on granite to view some granite veins there.
