Spanish Conquistador Don Juan De Oñate is one of the most controversial figures in the history of the Southwest, and he is also the subject of a controversial and colossal statue that now calls El Paso home. That statue, and the emotions it evokes, is the subject of a new national PBS documentary titled “The Last Conquistador.” KNME hosted a screening of the film in our studio, moderated by Gene Grant, and followed that up with a discussion with the audience and a panel that included one of the filmmakers. Then, David Alire Garcia sits down with another panel to debate the role of public art in our society.
