The amazones are a people of horsewomen, famous for their artistic abilities on their horses, their beauty and their courage. This print shows the "beauty" of representatives of the "blue-stockings" movement, this time shown in classical costumes. Daumier also makes a reference to the famed musician of the time, Liszt. Liszt was known for winning his audiences over and receiving numerous gifts from patrons.
