This episode consists of three segments. The first segment, "Shades of Winter", focuses on impressionist painters (such as John Ebersberger) in addition to their paintings and painting experiences (which includes traveling to Deep Creek Lake to paint). The second segment, "Shape of the Sand", focuses on Assateague Island, the negative consequences/problems now facing Assateague Island due to the creation of artificial sand dunes years ago, and efforts to monitor/restore Assateague Island. The third segment, "Baptism in the Bay", focuses on Maryland middle school students' involvement with "Bay Grasses and Classes", an effort to bring bay grasses back to the Chesapeake Bay and the Chesapeake Bay watershed. Outdoors Maryland is a magazine featuring segments on nature and the outdoors in Maryland.
