Photograph of a bust of Louis Braille, 1809-1852, the inventor of the Braille reading and writing system for the blind. At three years he was blinded through an accident with a knife and later an infection in the other eye that left him totally blind. The bust is marked: Professeur [teacher] (1827-1852)
