Frederick Douglass Square Mural

A mural created in 2003 by Heidi Schork and the Mayor's Mural Crew in the Frederick Douglass Square Historic District of Roxbury, Boston. It is on the side wall of Slade's Bar and Grill, painted in black, white, and gray shades. It depicts Frederick Douglass, front and center, with one of his quotes that reads, "Liberty is meaningless when the right to utter one's thoughts and opinions has ceased to exist. That, of all rights, is the dread of tyrants. It is the right which they first of all strike down. They know its power." He said this as part of a lecture given in 1860 after an abolitionist meeting in Boston.
