75 Years in Your Neighborhood

Mural painted in 2009 by the Mayor's Mural Crew. Heidi Schork and Susan Shian led a team of teen artists to paint this mural on the walls of the Norfolk Hardware and Home Center in Mattapan. Each section of the mural depicts a different scene from a neighborhood, although all of them depict houses (some of them brownstones), trees, and people from diverse ethnic and/or racial backgrounds. The first section depicts a group of people sitting on the steps of a building, chatting, smiling, and posing for a picture. In the second section, neighbors of different ages carry cardboard boxes, down a neighborhood street, perhaps to help someone moving. The third section shows neighbors painting and gardening.
