Nahant Public Library has acquired many artifacts and artworks over the years that are relevant to the town's history. Its collection of Native American implements point to the land's early use as a fishing encampment by the Massachusett (an Algonquian tribe) up until the 16th century. The library's portraits of early settlers, visitors, and boarding houses in the 19th century denote the town's rise from a simple farming community to a mecca for Boston's elite.
