The church of Ånimskog was probably built in the early 1200th century and is thus one of Dalsland’s oldest churches. Findings at the site suggest that an even older burial ground existed here and possibly an older wooden church. A casket is preserved in the halls of the family, consisting of an oak log eroded to fit the body of the dead. The coffin is considered to be from around 1000. The church building is a mixture of Romanesque and Gothic style from the 17th century. In the 1600s the church was rebuilt when it was extended, among others. In 1769 the house was built. In 1739 the ceiling was painted by Hans G Schüffner. Lars Falk has made altarpiece and pulpit in the 17th century. The baptismal find is sandstone and from the 17th century. A medieval fair shake from Flanders is kept in a stand. The artist Otto Hesselbom has his grave in the cemetery. Source: “Our Churches p. 590.”
