Incomplete copper alloy miniature shield. The shield is flat, a broad oval in plan, and has a raised tear-drop shaped boss in the centre. The shield is undecorated and has a circular rivet hole either side of the boss, presumably once for attaching a miniature grip which is now lost. The shield is in a fair state of preservation although the perimeter is abraded.Miniature shields are difficult to date however they are thought to range from circa 400BC to the mid-late 1st century AD.
