This item is possibly a very small lead votive axe of Roman date, although this identification is not certain. If that is what it is, the axe-head was made of lead, but the handle (which is missing) was of wood or some other substance. The surviving object is a small, tear-shaped piece of white-patinated lead, 19mm long and expanding to a rounded end 6mm in diameter, which is pierced by a hole of 2mm gauge. Along its full length the object is 5mm thick.
