Copper alloy miniature object. Cast model representing a leg below the knee and the foot, of D section to triangular section with a flat back and base - the latter is actually concave, probably a result of casting with that end of the mould open - and a rounded surface to the top of the foot and the front of the leg. The top of the leg is flat and has a central dimple of diameter 3.3mm, drilled to an uninvestigated depth. The modelling is plain, with no attempt to render naturalistic detail or the contours of the leg, though a crease between foot and leg may be a deliberate feature. The leg stands happily on its foot, which may suggest how it might have been displayed. Initially considered as a possible medieval vessel leg, the flat top and complete lack of sooting both suggest an alternative identification as a votive item. At a healing shrine, miniature body parts might be presented by devotees to either request or acknowledge divine assistance with the affected part.
