A complete copper alloy Iron Age or Roman miniature socketed axehead, dating to the period c.800 BC- AD410. The mouth is lenticular, with an ovoid indentation which represents the socket. In plan the axe expands out to a curve at its lower edge to acommodate the suspension loop in the form of a small aperture (2.41mm in diameter). It then narrows again before expanding out to form the blade. The upper edge is straight. The cutting edge is blunt and rounded at the corners. There is a green patina on the surface and the axe is worn in places. The axehead measures 24.32mm in length, 13.65mm in width at its widest, 8.72mm at its narrowest and 3.47mm in thickness. It weighs 6.83g.This example shares similarities with Robinson's Type I miniature axes. Cf. Robinson, P.
