ROMAN MINIATURE OBJECT

A complete copper alloy miniature axe head dating from the Iron Age through to the Roman period. The object is sub-rectangular in plan with a widening towards the blade. The axe is hollow and there is a collar around the opening. There is a small loop on one side. Miniature axeheads are thought to be votive in nature and may have been worn as pendants. Similar objects have been recorded on the PAS database, see WILT-F7AB14, NARC-2A7713 and SF-631D32.
