WDBS, Warren Pittman · 1968-01-01T00:00:00Z
Caricature of WDBS staff member Jeff Miller’s description: David Christy - One of a set of caricatures by Warren Pittman of the WDBS staff in the spring of 1968. He titled the set "The David Christy Family" (for Chris Santy's air name). They were posted on the acoustic tiles over the window in the large studio/lounge between the Control Room and the Production Studio until Santy finally left Durham in late Spring 1972 and commandeered them so they would not be lost to history. This drawing shows David Christy (real name Chris Santy), who provided these images and writes, "What can I say? I used to smoke a pipe and play air-bass a lot." From Jeff Miller’s site, "Remembering WDBS: The Campus Radio Station of Duke University (1950-1983)” Founded in 1950, WDBS began as a student run AM radio station sponsored by the student government at Duke University. It changed to an FM station in 1971, but was eventually sold to Classic Ventures, Inc. in 1983. Other student radio stations existed before and after WDBS and college radio continues today at Duke University on WXDU 88.7 FM.
