The complex layering of designs, which illustrates the extraordinary technical skill that characterizes Chinese porcelain, also suggests that this vase may represent a later re-creation of an eighteenth-century shape and style. The seal in the small cartouches and the pendants painted under the rim are typical of the decoration of porcelain in the first half of the twentieth century.
