Map of the Village – From a young age I was told that our village was called “Yean Que,” which meant “The Misty Bridge,” “yean” meaning “smokey” and “que” meaning bridge. The bridge that leads to our village and was a necessary structure to help those coming because it often became foggy and the village would be difficult to find. It resides in the territory called “Nam Hoi Sai Chui,” which is the surrounding province. It is situated in the Canton area. Our village was known to be one with outstanding morals and ethics. A member from our village became a favorite counselor to one particular emperor of China. So much so that he came to visit our village. Today, it is one of ten villages with the given title of “Special Village.” My uncle used to tell me about how famous our village was. I guess he was telling the truth because, now, one has to pay a nominal fee to enter our village which has been totally remodeled by the government.
