Sam, Manuchihr's former guardian, becomes a father long after the first blush of youth has passed. The child, Zal, is an albino, thought to be a bad omen, and none of the women of Sam's house will allow him to see the child for a week. When he finally is shown the baby, Sam orders him to be carried off to Mount Alburz and left to die.
