Two-handled Jar

This jar with basket handles has decoration similar to that on a jug found int he same tomb (16.10.426). Both are made of marl clay , covered with a pale coating, burnished, and decorated in red and black paint. The decoration recalls Cypriot pottery that was imported into Egypt at the end of the Second Intermediate Period. The Egyptian potters of early Dynasty 18 adopted the style of red and black decoration and used it on native Egyptian forms.
