Excavated 1903 in a room in the east wing of the villa at Agia Triadha, Crete.The original frescoes from the villa at AgiaTriadha were badly damaged by fire at the time the building was destroyed in the middle of the fifteenth century B.C., darkening their overall appearance sometimes to the point of illegibility. Gillieron's reproduction made soon after the initial discovery is much more readable than the original is today. Flowering crocuses fill the foreground. Above are light blue flowers with broad leaves that have been identified as violets. Crete has over 500 endemic species of wild flowers. The original is in the Herakleion Archaeological Museum, Crete.
