The shawl (perraje in Spanish) is woven in a hip loom with acrylic cotton. A floral embroidery is applied by machine. Embroidery is a decorative technique where extra threads are added to the fabric when it is finished. At the ends of the shawl fringes are added. The shawl consists of two woven pieces of textile. \A shawl is used exclusively by women to cover the upper part of the body (torso, shoulders). It is a rectangular garment with several functions: it can be used for protection against the cold; for covering the head in church or during processions; and for carrying babies on the back. This shawl is intended for everyday use. This shawl is striped in different colors and decorated with embroidered flowers and plant motifs in white. \Nebaj is located in the department of El Quiché. In 2007, Nebaj had a population of 70,456, of which 66,710 belong to the Ixil culture.
