Function:‖ The female clothing repertoire consists of a multicolored top called a huipil; a patterned or plain skirt called a falda or corte; an embroidered or woven belt called a faja; adornment for the head and hair called a cinta; and a cloth for various purposes called a tzute or servilleta.‖ Fajas, the name for a woman's belt or strap, are woven on a hip loom. They vary in length, width and embroidery or embroidered design depending on the village they come from. Decoration patterns range from people and animal motifs to geometric and stripe motifs. The ends usually hang loose as fringes, but can also be braided or finished with pompoms. \The way fajas are worn varies from village to village. Some villages tuck the ends in and others tie the faja and leave the ends hanging loose. Most fajas are made of cotton, but they can also be made of wool.\Description: \This faja is woven with red and white. Across the width are woven white and red stripes. On the front are alternating star, stripe, diamond, stripe motif which is repeated throughout the length of the faja. The edges consist of two white stripes.‖ The origin of this piece is almost impossible to determine. These fajas are often made in one village and spread over a large area. Some of these fajas even closely resemble fajas from Mexico.
