Material: manta (factory cotton) and black woolTechnique: machine woven cotton with flat weave and embroideryThe blouse is worn in both Acuezontitla and Zontecomatlan (Veracruz). It is worn in the skirt (5075-526) and with quechquémitl 5075-527.‖ The blouse is an originally European garment introduced to Mexico by the Spanish so that Indian women would wear something under their "quechquémitl." Like the "huipil" and other garments, blouses are often decorated with embroidery. The Nahua have developed different styles. The blouses are made of white cotton and decorated with embroidery on the neck and sleeves. Stylized animals and birds as well as geometric motifs are very popular. The embroidery is also becoming more colorful; where previously only black was used, nowadays red is used, often in combination with other colors. Women usually spend a lot of time embroidering clothes, but on the market loose embroidered strips can be bought to sew on blouses.
