This blouse is specific to the village of Tlahuitoltepec. \The blouse played a central role in social media debates about cultural appropriation. French designer Isabel Marant copied the blouse in her spring/summer 2015 collection. She copied the embroidery onto blouses, dresses and shorts. Criticism arose on social and other media from the village. Marant stated that she actually appreciated the cultural property and mentioned the origin in documents. Another fashion chain, Antik Batik, and Marant are said to have patented the designs. This is denied by Marant. The village has since passed a law (2017) protecting local cultural heritage and intellectual property. \In any case, an example of cultural appropriation and an increasingly loud voice, via social media, of local communities.
