The wrapskirt is woven with cotton in a step loom. Cotton threads have been used that have been dyed using the Jaspe technique (also known as the Ikat technique). Jaspe is a dyeing technique in knots where decorative motifs are produced. In this technique, specific parts of the thread are covered (by knotting the thread in specific places) to prevent these parts from becoming coloured when the thread is dipped in the paint. When the knots are undone, after dyeing, the thread contains dyed and unpainted segments. During weaving, figures are formed with these threads. \A wrap skirt (Corte in Spanish) is used only by women to cover the lower part of the body (hips, legs). In terms of function, it is similar to the skirt. A wraparound skirt is a square or rectangular piece of textile that is wrapped around the body.At the bottom of the skirt, a strip runs horizontally, where more white warp threads have been used side by side. Between the white stripes, a pattern has been woven with Jaspe threads. Two horizontal thin red stripes form the bottom check. At the top a wide hem has been made, through which a braided cord has been woven. The blue and white cord holds the wide skirt together and arranges the skirt into folds.Bought at the mercado diario for Q 20, -Cobán is the capital of Alta Verapaz and was founded in 1536. The Emperor Carlos V gave Cobán the title of ´Ciudad Imperial´ and also donated its shield, which has a dove and a rainbow illustrated on it. By 1554, the Dominicans had built their monasterio (monastery) and from that time on, Santo Domingo was their saint.‖ The language spoken in Cobán is Q'eqchi. This language is the most widely spoken language in Guatemala. There are a total of 400,000 Q'eqchi speakers in Guatemala.
