The shawl (in Spanish perraje) is woven with cotton in a hip loom. \A shawl is used exclusively by women to cover the upper part of the body (torso, shoulders). It is a rectangular garment used for protection from the cold, for covering the head in church or during processions, and for carrying babies on the back.\ This shawl consists of 2 strips, tied together lengthwise. The narrower and wider lengthwise stripes are cheerful in color. The warp threads are not finished, but hang loose as fringe. Both ends are stitched in white with a stitch, two sides: a big pot with flowers, a big bird and a rabbit. On the other side a bird and they are depicted on a zigzag beam. Embroidery is a decorative technique where extra threads are added to the fabric after weaving. Purchased at the mercado de Domingo for Q 12, -.‖ Nebaj is located in the department of El Quiché. In 2007, Nebaj had a population of 70,456, of which 66,710 belonged to the Ixil culture.
