The chevron bead is an aristocrat among beads and is probably of Egyptian-Arab origin. The modern chevrons are imported from Italy and Czechoslovakia. They are drawn beads consisting of six layers of alternating white, blue and red, which by grinding get their typical chevron motive. Large specimens are popular in Cameroun, Gabon and the Congo region, while the small ones are preferred in Senegal. They are rarely seen in East Africa.DescriptionBlue-white-red chevron bead, flanked by two smaller black-and-yellow beads on a leather lace.
