BOWYER BIBLE PRINTS: THE COVENANT WITH NOAH This image-collection contains prints illustrating the covenant with Noah in the Book of Genesis in the Bowyer Bible, a grangerised version of the Macklin Bible. Robert Bowyer (1758-1834) spent a fortune on his own copy of the Macklin Bible which he expanded to 45 volumes after acquiring and inserting over 6200 different prints of Biblical events. He had a custom designed bookcase built just to house his collection; The Bowyer Bible is now housed in Bolton Museums and Archives who acquired it in 1948. Many of the prints in the Bowyer Bible (a grangerised Macklin Bible) have now been made available online by Revd. Phillip Medhurst (b.1948). For him these two great Bibles are not primarily objects of academic study. Instead, he sees himself as carrying on the work of men such as Thomas Macklin and especially of Robert Bowyer: namely, to spread abroad the Word of God as mediated by artistic genius. The 21st century phenomenon of the internet provides an opportunity undreamt-of by the two publisher-collectors to do this, and has enabled him to see himself as carrying on the work they began. At the time of their first uploading these images were the only photos of many of the prints to be readily found anywhere. Anyone wishing to view the originals must go to Bolton and ask for one of the 45 volumes of the Bowyer Bible to be taken down individually from its case and opened.  The titles of the prints in this collection are as follows:- 01 Rainbow.
