Fragment of a cast copper alloy openwork chape in the shape of a knight on horseback. Only the the knight, with pointed helmet and leaf shaped shield, and the front part of the horse remains. Although smoothed various details remain including the knights eyes, reins, horse browband and carpison are visible. The fragment is 27.5mm tall, 19.7mm wide, 1.7mm thick and weighs 2.58 grams. This is part of a Type 4 chape, a type currently being studied by Peter Woods who supplied the drawing and has listed this as chape 33.
