Fragment of a cast copper alloy openwork object, probably a chape. The fragment is made of thin strips in the shape of a trefoil with pointed leaves and a curved strip joining two of the leaves. The strips are decorated with punched circles in lines. There is a small hole in the centre of the trefoil and attached to two corners are rectangular hooks with ends bent over 180 degrees. Attached to the centre of the curved strip is a pierced circular piece. The fragment is 27.2mm tall, 24.3mm wide, 1.1mm thick and weighs 2.26 grams.This is probably part of a Type 4 chape, a type currently being studied by Peter Woods who supplied the drawing.
