Pencil with watercolour drawing showing a 'decorticating' chancre (syphilitic sore) on the penis of a patient at the Royal Free Hospital, London. A chancre is the primary sore of syphilis, a painless indurated, eroded papule, occurring at the site of entry of the infection.
