Watercolour drawing of a large ulcer on the wrist which was considered to be due to vaccinia. The patient was a man aged 45, who, with two other milkmen, had milked a cow with sores on the udder. A small pustule appeared on the wrist four days before the drawing was made. The two fellow milkmen developed similar ulcers on the fingers during the same week. Cultures from the vesicle yielded only streptococci.
