The lush foliage seen in this work perfectly reflects the rich metaphoric prose of Jayadeva’s Gita Govinda, giving visual form to Krishna and Radha’s passion. Radha’s confidante is seen at center looking back through the tangled jungle where Radha had to travel to meet with her lover. While the depiction of the forest is perhaps less polished than that done by the workshop of Sahibdin in the early seventeenth century, it is more freely depicted and employs a greater range of colors.
