The description of the concept in this drawing is: Lightweight helmets of pith or cork covered with cloth with a round crown and fixed brim that slopes downward; worn in tropical regions as a protection against the sun. First worn by the British army in India in the mid-19th century and made with the pith of the sola plant. (AAT)
