Ira Blount · 1992
A narrow handle attaches to the body of this egg basket, denoting it as decorative rather than functional. Double-plied twisted seagrass cord creates a portion of the plain weave. Artist Ira Blount also used wood splints and round reeds to supplement the seagrass cord, creating an overall textured surface. The delicacy of the design and handle contrasts with the basket’s sturdy shape and form.
