Ira Blount · late 20th-early 21st Century
With its swing handle and double-lashed rim design, this square basket closely resembles a traditional “Taconic” basket—named after the Columbia County, New York mountain range and region. The basket is woven in a plain weave using wood splints. It is wider in the middle and narrows at the top and bottom, in a nod to artist Ira Blount’s persistent interest in exploring different shapes and forms.
