<I>Bouquet holder, mother of pearl handle</I>

The shallow vase of the bouquet holder is made from gilded metal. Pierced metalwork forms the base in four sections, each of which attaches at the base in a scroll. The sections of pierced vase form banderols, scrolling forms, and leafy shapes that are engraved with linear detailing and floral motifs. From the vase a pin on a chain is attached so that the flowers could be secured in the vase by inserting it and piercing the stems. The handle of the bouquet holder is shaped out of mother of pearl. The pointed shaft is carved with bands stacked on top of one another. Mother of pearl handles retained a cool feeling longer than some other materials; because of this, they were said to be appropriate for warmer months.
