Archer & Daly · 1863
CSA unused 20-cent George Washington, full face. Issued imperforate. Line engraved on steel by Frederick Halpin, transferred to steel printing plates, and printed by Archer & Daly, Richmond, Virginia. At the close of the war, large quantities of the 20-cent stamps, in full sheets and panes, remained on hand in the post offices. Accordingly, unused examples are common. "POD" [Post Office Department] stamped on reverse.
