January 25, 1817, folded letter with printed report and prices current inside, plus a short letter from Liverpool to Providence, Rhode Island, carried on the sailing ship "Anna Maria," Captain Isaac Waite, to New York. Letter arrived at New York on April 23 and entered US postal system as a ship letter. A New York clerk marked SHIP to show the source of the letter to the mail system and that 20.5 cents postage was due in Providence, a 2 cent ship fee, and an 18.5 cent inland fee for a letter going 190 miles from New York to Providence. Docketing inside the letter shows that it was received on April 26.
