On July 15, 1918, Capt. Benjamin B. Lipsner received a wire confirming that President Woodrow Wilson had accepted his resignation as captain of the Aviation Section Signal Corps. The message was sent to Lipsner at the Aviation Section Signal Corps, Supply Section, Oil and Lubrication Branch, Office of Director of Military Aeronautics. McCain, its author, asked Lipsner to acknowledge the acceptance, which he did.
