Letter to Rachel Walters from Isaac Walters
April 17, 1865
Private Isaac Walters of Company F, 20th Indiana Infantry sent this condolence letter to his sister-in-law Rachel upon the news David Walters’s death by starvation in a prisoner of war camp. The April 17, 1865 letter also notes intelligence reports that President Lincoln, Secretary Seward and his son were all assassinated.
