Owney received this advertising and personal identification token during his travels. The token was produced by the Cod-Liver Oil Glycerin Company of St. Louis, Missouri. The token advertised a new method of delivering cod liver as a medicine. The “Aluminum Pocket Piece” as it is identified on the back of the token, was given to physicians to advertise the new product. A space on the back of the token was left open for physicians to place their name and address. There is no information to indicate who gave the token to Owney or when it was given to the dog.
