Owney, American, c. 1888 - 1897 · 1888-1897
Owney received this advertising and identification token from the Home Benefit Life Association of San Francisco, California. The token includes the embossed image of a building on one side and the “reward return to” identification on the other. There is nothing on the tag to indicate when it was given to Owney. The association was established by Frank Colton in the early 1880s and went out of business in 1892. Owney made several trips to San Francisco during his lifetime.
